Policy for Alumni Membership
Effective June 6, 2001
(Policy Approved by Board of Directors June 6, 2001)
1. The board recommends that Divisions be encouraged to be creative with their membership requirements to allow men in whom, because of schedule conflicts do not fit the mold.
2. The board recommends the creation of an "Alumni Member" level
3. This level of membership provides a place for men who are graduates (alumni) of the Men's Weekend (or other MDI sanctioned weekend initiation process) but do not wish to be (or do not have the possibility of being) part of a Men's Division. They may or may not live in areas of the country where being in a Men's Division is a viable choice. They also may or may not be a member of a Men's Team that is not part of a Division.
4. This membership will be managed at the coastal level of the MDI. Requirements would be the first three requirements of the MDI (being a graduate of an MDI sanctioned weekend initiation process, recognition of the Code of Honor, and Payment of dues). Alumni Members will receive the same monthly or semi-monthly newsletter that the MDI will be putting out for its Division members. Of particular use will be the calendar of events. Alumni will also receive periodically updated Alumni rosters. In short, this level of membership would serve as a connection for members to each other, to the Men's Division, and to events put on by the Division and/or relating to graduates of the Men's Weekend. It also allows men to support, thru their membership fee, something they believe in. It is recommended that dues be low, perhaps $20 or $30 per year. This reflects the low expectation and low service provided. Membership will be yearly.
5. The board proposes that two Alumni membership representative position be created, one on each coast. This representative will have a relationship with the alumni membership, manage contributions for and from alumni in the MDI newsletter, manage the alumni roster, and serve as an advisor and representative to the MDI on behalf of the alumni membership.
Fee structure for MDI events
The board recommends that a fee structure be made available for events put on by the MDI. This would normally give a substantially reduced rate for "Division Members" vs. "Alumni Members". Alumni members in turn would normally get a small discount as compared to non-members (assuming the event was open to non-members).
(As an example, a leadership-training course might charge $30 for Division Members, $45 for Alumni Members and $50 for non-members.)
